Thanks for all of the birthday wishes last week!  I was on the road and didn't see them until today.

I was driving for TWELVE days. I went from my home in Columbus, Ohio to Anime Boston then drove over to Chicago, IL for the C2E2 convention and just got home again yesterday.  It was really fun to spend my birthday in Boston. I went to the Old South Meeting House and got a private tour up the belltower to see the Paul Revere bell they recently put up there.  Then we went over to Bunker Hill, my favorite spot on the Freedom Trail to meet Dr. Sam Forman (Dr. Joseph Warren's latest biographer) for lunch at the Warren Tavern, named after Dr. Warren and was the first building rebuilt after the British burnt Charlestown in 1775.

After that I drove to Hartford, CN to spend the night with a friend. On my way in I stopped at Ashford, CN to see where Colonel Thomas Knowlton used to live.

It was a long day,but a great one!

So thanks for all the birthday wishes, I feel the love!

I'm probably a little late in posting this. But there are a few days late to sign up for the Comic Creators for Freedom: Fighting Together to End Human Trafficking Drive.

Every year a group of over 100 comic creators bands together to create a single piece of art for National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Each artist draws a female character of their own, and all the image are put together on one downloadable wallpaper image.

So far we've raised $15,000!



This year the theme is Epic Snow Ball fight. Every character is drawn either throwing or being hit by a snowball. And then all 100 characters will be compiled into one hilarious battle! It's going to be a blast.

Hey, Dreamers! You all know Julie Wright *oneoftwo whether you know it or not: she colors The Dreamer! And has since Issue #9. She recently found out that her adorable little pug puppy Makoto has a lot of health problems, and is having problems keeping up with the medical bills.



People don't make comics to become rich. Believe me, I know!  They do it because they love it.  So if you think that Julie has done a great job coloring The Dreamer, and love the work she does for you week in and week out, consider saying thanks and giving her a "tip" to help save her precious little dog. You would not get regular Wed/ Friday updates if it wasn't for her!  Julie has NEVER missed an update, and she's been working for me for a year and a half. So I dropped the ball big time on the idea i had for the "Knowlton's Mystery Box Contest." [link] never put it in my journal, and didn't promote it, and now I'm posting the page that has the real panel on it tonight, so I'm out of time.

Good news is: I'm going to send sticker sets to all three people who entered!  Bad news is: only three people entered.  Ha ha!  

Sorry, everyone... so much is going on in my world right now. All right so  ~Imalshen tagged me!  I know I've done this one before, but it's been a long time, so why not. So I'll make these Dreamer Related, just for fun!

10 Things About Me...

1. My favorite Dreamer character to draw is Frederick Knowlton.

2. My favorite Dreamer character to write is Colonel Knowlton.

3. The upcoming cameo I am most excited about... is Johnny Tremain! (OK, he's not real, but that'll be my tip o' the hat to a personal heroine of mine, Ester Forbes.)

4. Depending on the page, I can draw one Dreamer page in a little over a day now. (Some of the pages with a lot of characters, or a lot of backgrounds can take two, to two and a half days.) But going all digital has made a HUGE impact on my time.

5. I have written and rewritten the Boston Tea party and cannot do it in a way that I like. Which means you might not get to read about it in The Dreamer...

6. My favorite character is Alan Warren... when he's about 14 years old. Yes, you'll get to "meet" 14 year old Alan soonish, so get ready!

7. I letter all my pages using a program called Comic Life and am DUMBFOUNDED that most webcomic creators do not just shell out the $50 for this program. IT IS A TOTAL TIME SAVER. You cannot letter in Illustrator nearly as fast as you can in Comic Life, and it looks better. I've been using it since page 1, Issue 1.

8. Alan Warren is not the man I want to marry when I grow up, he's actually the person I want to be. I'm so busy and career focused, that his carefree, shoeless, family-first, take naps in the sun lifestyle sounds idyllic.

9. Sometimes Bea annoys me. But that's why she's fun to write!

10. Getting comments from people excited about my story and my characters gives me more energy than a Starbuzz Four Star Alarm with Whipped Cream on top, so thank you!

A lot of you know that the Comic Creators Alliance is a donations drive I started last year for National Human Trafficking Awareness Day. Comic creators donate a drawing of one of their original female characters and I compile them all into one image and by donating you receive the image as a desktop wallpaper!

Human Trafficking--otherwise known as slavery!--is a heinous problem in our world today--more so than it was even during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. I feel especially drawn to making this cause personal for two reasons. One, I think that we history buffs should all be activists. As historians, we look back on the past and judge it--but one day someone else will be doing that for us. So who will we be in their estimation? The complacent masses that let slavery go on right under our noses or will we be the William Wilberforces of our day? I vote for the latter, and I hope you join me!

The other reason this is personal to me is because a young teenage girl I mentored here in Columbus, Ohio was nearly abducted for this purpose in broad daylight on her walk to the school bus one morning. It's happening everywhere--right under our noses. No, for the most part modern day slaves aren't out working in the fields, but they are here in America and all over the world in the dark and hidden secret places. I think their stories are some of the most heart wrenching, unjust tales I've ever heard.

Help me fight it! Alone I couldn't do much, but together, we've accomplished a lot and will accomplish even more!  Last year we raised $10K and split it between two worthy organizations! I hope to top it this year!

But I'll be out of town tomorrow so I'll put it in my journal today. I've already gotten some birthday llamas and birthday cake. Thanks, all!  

I've absolutely loved DeviantART and have had so much fun hanging out with you all here. Thanks for all the faves, comments, daily deviations and mostly laughs! DeviantART has certainly given me a boost of encouragement at times that I've needed it. I remember when I first got on here it was at the insistence of !Snitter and !DekeNicki that I would love it and it would be a great way to get my art out there. They were right!

*ChrisOatley! Oats has been my husband's (and one of my!) best friends since college. He painted the Dreamer #4 cover, and now works at Disney. Go read his blog or follow him on twitter. He's full of all kinds of mentorly wisdom that he gives away for free.




~CluesBD! She is writing a fantastic looking Victorian crime/mystery comic called Clues. I love her work. Just wish it was in English so I could read it and follow the story!




~csgirl! Meghan Stringfellow happens to be my cousin-in-law! She's one of those rare creatures who still works traditionally... and makes it look easy! She also has an entire line of plushy bunnies that are irresistible.




~keki-girl! Erin McGivern is my brother-in-law's sister. She just got on DA and I expect her account to explode after people realize how incredibly talented she is. Her art medium of choice is cakes! The Tim Burton cake in this lineup was my sister & brother-in-law's wedding cake!




~napoleoman! David Smith does beautiful, traditional life drawings. I have no idea why he doesn't have more page hits. He needs to release an art book. These are always breathtaking.




~NataliaSerrano! I just recently found Natalia Serrano, but her works are adorable! She really needs to start selling these plushies somewhere that I can buy them!

Hmm... Eight facts about Alan...

1. Alan first met Bea when she had just turned 14 in the market in Boston. Apparently he gave her an apple and she kept it till it went rotten on her night stand. (You can read about it in the short story "A Most Agreeable Thanksgiving.")  [link]

2. Alan's birthday is July 2nd, 1749.

3. Alan's dad died when he went off to make some money fighting in the French & Indian War. He was a gunsmith in Boston, but Alan was sent to live in Roxbury at his widowed Aunt Mary's apple farm when his father left to fight. Aunt Mary's husband Joseph Warren had died when he fell out of an apple tree--True story!

4. Alan met Sam Adams for the first time when he was 15 at his cousin Joseph's doctor's office, receiving the bad news that Joseph wanted to inoculate Alan for the small pox.  (You'll get to read about this in the third graphic novel!)

5. Frederick Knowlton used to be terrified of Alan. But they went on an adventure together and he got over it... for the most part. (You can read about it in "Frederick Knowlton: First Impressions.") [link]

6. Alan's not a very ambitious guy. His biggest dream was to buy the farm up the street from his aunt's house and live there till he died. He bought the farm when he was 18 using money he inherited from his father's shop that was sold when he died, and from money he made fixing guns along the way. (You can read about this too in the 3rd graphic novel!)

7. Alan first met "Captain" Thomas Knowlton at Bunker Hill when he showed up to fight and was sent to the rail fence to reenforce Knowlton's men. Alan never wanted to be a soldier because that is how his father died, but when the British shot his cousin Joseph Warren at Bunker Hill, he enlisted.

8. Alan's favorite thing in the world is a summer day at his farm with Joseph's orphaned children (Betsy, Jose, Dick and Polly) and Bea. Runner up is sharing a pipe and a bottle of rum with his cousin Ebenzer on the porch on a hot summer's night.
