This is a Christmas present for *Cheeko-001 of her OC "Wolf": [link] It's a 1.5 hour speed painting in Photoshop. I did it all with one brush, not for any particular reason besides that brush was working for me so I stuck with it.
Cheeko moved to my city about a year and a half ago right when a lot of my friends were moving away.
Sometimes the right people come into your life at the right time. Cheeko always makes me smile, and it's been a hard year. And I've never had a fellow comic-creator friend who lives in the same town as me. I'm used to seeing my buddies at Conventions all around the country. Cheeko lives about ten minutes away so we can hang out, make pizzas, riff trax horrible movies, or just get together and sketch. We've even been known to do Rock Band vocals to Lady Gaga songs together, though I'm pretty sure she'd deny it.
Last night she let me read the four issue Graphic Novel she wrote about this gal, "Wolf." She put it together while she was living in New Orleans, and sketched an entire 100 page book in a month! Her graphic novel takes place in New Orleans, and several key scenes take place in a church off Jefferson Street. I used to live in New Orleans and love just about any story that is set there. So that made her graphic novel even more special for me.
It's such a lovely (if not dark) story, that I really wanted to paint her character after I was finished reading it.
So Meg, I can't say I love you loud enough. Thanks for being my friend. Merry Christmas.
ha ha, yeah. She was one of the first people I met in Webcomics back in... 2007? And then she moved to my city for a summer and we hung out and after college she moved here permanently!
