This is a commission I did this fall for a woman who is a descendant of the guy with the lantern--Will Eustis--who, before he was governor of Massachusetts, was a Harvard student interested in medicine. He, along with his classmate (the fellow on the right), were a part of a secret club called the Spunkers who "acquired" bodies for dissection.

It wasn't exactly legal to cut up a body without the owner's (or family's) consent, so the Spunkers had to go out at night and make things happen on their own. They learned anatomy and surgery this way.

The guy with the shovel is John Warren [link] future founder of Harvard Medical school. And the youngest brother of famous patriot-martyr Joseph Warren. [link] Both Will and John apprenticed under Joseph Warren in Boston after they graduated Harvard.

This was possibly the most fun I've ever had doing a commission! I've wanted to do a Spunkers Club story for Halloween but as of yet, have not had the time. So this was a nice excuse to at draw the Spunkers in action!

Dr. John Warren is an upcoming character in my Revolutionary War comic The Dreamer: [link]

*Snort* I called this one in an instant despite no identifiers of where they are setting wise. The expressions and the atmosphre sold it completely. Which means one thing.

*Dramatic pause*

You did excellently with it. ^_-

And it makes me think of Robert Knox with Mr. Hare and Mr. Burke episode back in Jolly ol England. Though that was a bit later.

Pfff, I think we were lucky enough to have had American History for about a whole semester XD Never heard of these guys but still doesn't lessen how cool this tidbit was! I love the expression on their faces, haha.

Man, I had AP American History two semesters in High School and the teacher LOVED politics. We had to know every candidate for every election, plus all the issues...

I don't remember them all (I couldn't recite them for you) but it did give me a great, holistic understanding of the way US History fits together. Bored at the time, grateful now! :XD:
