After months and months and over a year of waiting, I got my new computer today! Somewhere around September I broke down crying, telling my husband Mike that if I had to work on our seven year old iMac a day longer I was going to lose my mind. I think the rant included self inflicted death threats.

He told me there was rumor that Apple would be releasing a new Mac Pro tower in October, so why buy the old tower in September if we could just be patient a few weeks longer for the new one? A month felt like a lifetime, but the release came and went and no Mac Pro. Then he heard rumors of the tower being out before Christmas for the shopping season. Again, nothing came of it.

(I'm not sure if there ever really were such rumors, or if that Mike is just a really clever guy.) ;)

January 15th is circled and starred on my calendar as *the* day, the day of all days, when the coveted machine would finally hit the market for real this time and... for once I was surprised.

Apple released it a week early!

I can feel the power even though it's not plugged in yet.

*LOVE*

No, it's not a laptop. It's a tower.

I know, but my first reaction was: "Damn, that's a big box for a MacBook Pro...oh, wait."

I can't decide who's more beautiful, you or the mac pro lol. Just to be clear though, a mac is a PC. I don't mean that loosely, like how PowerPC macs were personal computers. I mean literally, today macs are PC's marketed by Apple and using slightly modified PC hardware components so they are incompatible with those not used by Apple. I will skip over why macs have fewer viruses than PC's, as I think anyone who knows anything about computers knows that it has nothing to do with the security of the OS.

As for why most PC's are crappier, Windows aside, it's because Apple uses the higher-end hardware from the PC pool. I've used macs and PC's for 19 years (well I'm 24 so I couldn't have started much earlier) and have experience with all versions of Windows, several of Mac OS, numerous Linux variants, Solaris, and FreeBSD (no Amiga though). I know first hand that properly built PC's are no less reliable than macs, and sometimes even more so. But of course, macs have the integrated experience and eye candy. The mac pro looks nice, especially on the inside, and I've tested the new one and it runs wonderfully. However, since I care less about integration and aesthetics than I do raw power and customization, I decided to go with a PC workstation running Linux. I really like the mac pro, and enjoy using it, but, as a power user with several specific needs, I can go farther with the same money elsewhere.

lol. I've had a Mac since about 1986. My dad got one of those ones with the floppy drive and it was COLOR not a green monitor and we were in heaven. Corell Draw and Oregon Trail.

I've never used PCs so they're foreign and confusing to me. I grew up with Macs, and I'm a happy customer so with them I shall remain. I'm not a programer, I'm an artist. I find the PC interface confusing. It's gotten a lot better but back in the 90's it was a mess compared to my Apple.
