This is the other fun drawing I did at Starbucks on my birthday. The nice Starbucks lady tidying up the cafe came over and said loudly, "Ooooh, she's an artist! Are you an artist? Are you drawing?" My instant, shy-girl response was to cover my drawing and say sheepishly, "Yes."
One day I learn proper social skill...! Geesh. I embarrass myself.
In any event, this cutie pie is a character from a song by one of my favorite bands, Gaelic Storm. They're an Irish band, and their new album "Bring Yer Wellies" is seriously one of my favorite upbeat feel good albums of all time. I borrowed my sister's copy after we saw them play at the Dublin (Ohio) Irish festival last summer. (They play there every year, always the high point of the weekend.) I was so addicted to the CD that before I could give it back to her, I had to buy my own copy on iTunes.
The song is called Kelly's Wellies, and is about a poor boy who wears his Wellington Boots all year long. Okay, it's such a happy, get-up-and-dance sort of song that every time I hear it I just want to be Kevin Kelly's best friend. He seems like such a happy-go-lucky, wonderful bloke.
Kelly's Wellies is one of my favs. It also speaks to me about marching to one's own drum. "His pants had holes in their knees, but he was proud as you please. With his old wellies, he keeps strolling along."
ROTFLDM this is one of my favorite songs on that cd, cause it has a funny story that goes with it I'm an irish dancer, and a few years ago my team performed at and outdoor irish festival. It was raining, so I wore these big polka dot wellies between dances. My teacher LOVED my boots, and when she saw the Bring Yer Wellies cd for sale and saw the name of that song ^ she had to get it!
