I spent the summer of '06 living in New Orleans with my husband doing relief work through a church/relief organization in Kenner (a NOLA suburb) called Mercy Response. It was the high point of my life--I've never enjoyed myself more. New Orleans is my favorite city in America, and when Katrina hit in '05, I spent two days crying. We went down to volunteer for a week in January '05 gutting homes, but it wasn't long enough for me! So we quit our jobs in May '06 and spent the next four months doing relief work and sleeping in other people's houses. What a trip! I love that city! and have spent the past year plotting to go back...
All of that to say that I missed NOLA dearly last fall when we returned to Ohio, and this drawing of the Ragin' Cajun and his Mississippi belle came out of my love and longing for the Big Easy.

When you wish upon a falling star, your dreams can come true. Unless it's really a meteorite hurtling to the Earth which will destroy all life. Then you're pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for. Unless it's death by meteor.
Lovely, awesomely done.

They say life's unfair. But if you play your cards right, make the best of it, and just move on, it doesn't have to be. --- It's either an eternity of suffering, or just a few years. Peace will never come if you kill yourself now.
NO just has a real magic about it, espeically the French Quarters, even after Katrina. I was there two weeks shy of the one year anniversary, and while it was incrediably sad to see how little has been done to help it, and the fact I only had a three days there, I feel in love with the French Quarters and still long to go back to it. So my thanks for you being one the people trying to help restore the city to its once glory.
As for the art, wonderful and I love the little hint of Mardi Gras with the beads in it. All the sweeter since I am a huge Romy fan.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

CCAD woulda been too much pressure for me. I would've ended up hating art.
