So the *HistoryFashionLovers club is having a "Born in the Wrong Century" contest, where you're supposed to draw what you would be doing if you were born in the *right* century. Okay, I'll be honest, I love the 18th Century, but we horribly romanticize the past and I actually believe that I was born in the right century. (Am I going to get kicked out of the club??) Cause... I really, really appreciate things like being able to vote, have a career, own property, and, uh, wear pants without being tried as a witch! :XD: Not to mention how much I appreciate things like the end of small pox, polio, slavery, the reform of prisons and the treatment of the mentally ill, etc, etc, etc. (I will concede that the Constitution was so much purer back then..!)

In any event, the premise of the contest is fun, so you know, my answer of course is THE LATE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY AMERICA, HUZZAH! And what would I be doing? Well, fan girling Thomas Jefferson, of course! :XD: Background photo is manipulated from an image from Monticello.org. (Oh, and all you TJ lovers out there, we so need this: [link] )

I have no photos of my own from inside Monticello, because they only allow you to photograph the outside. So... I had to lift one from their website. That's what they get for their silly prohibitions! :XD: I used Stephen Dillane as my TJ model because he's doing such a bang-up, delicious job as Thomas Jefferson on the John Adams mini-series.

Well, today is my birthday, so I went to Starbucks and drew two completely silly pieces I had been wanting to find time to do for a long time. This is the first one, the second I'll post whenever I have time to color it...

AHAHAHA

I love it

SO MUCH

This makes me think about a very deep and serious discussion with a group of friends about which Fonding Father we would rather sleep with.

Thomas Jefferson won by a landslide?

I guess he's pretty sexy, in that tortured Declaration-writer sort of way. My personal vote was for Benjamin Franklin. But that might be because I was also a little obsessed with Liberty Kids at the time. I MEAN SHH WHAT I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING. >_>

OH EFFING AWESOME! O___________________O! *dies* Dude, I totally agree with you about being born in the *right* century... becuase, knowing me, I would have chosen 1) World War One (imagines self running like crazy out of a field hospital screaming about WTF I did wrong to end up there) or 2) the 1960s and Cocoa Beach... but knowing my luck, I'd end up in Soviet Russia to fawn over Yuri Gagarin and end up in a gulag. *booooooos*

But dude... so sweet!

Hah what a fun contest! I probably wouldn't be able to choose a time period, there are so many good ones, lol

And I love the art, I know I'd be fangirling like that over Jefferson too if I met him ;)

this is highly amusing. XD
Also, as an attempted historian, i sympathize with you. Sometimes, one just needs to fangirl historical figures.

XD We do take our own century for granted I think, but it still is fun to romanticize the past! I'd have to choose medieval Ireland (no idea what century unfortunately)...you know before the catholics came and with castles and awesome myths and stories and song and music and....

This idea is pure genius however, and I totally agree, Thomas Jefferson is by far my favorite founding father. (he had such great ideals and you have to love the writers of history, often they're under appreciated)
