Watchers

I just realized I hadn't updated my journal in over six months.

My DA subscription ran out and I haven't felt compelled to renew it.

I'm wondering if the culture on DA is changing or if I just haven't been here enough to realize DA is still very active.  To me it feels like everyone is on Tumblr more than DA these days.

Would you all agree with that?

When I got on DA years ago there was a fantastic culture of artists making their own art in their own galleries. Clubs were active and comments were aplenty.  The front page and Daily Deviations were full of original, inspired art. A lot of famous comic artists were here, too, engaging with the fans. It was fun to have access to them and to leave comments saying how much we loved their work.

But anymore it seems like fandom is everywhere and the unique works either aren't submitted as often or just aren't liked enough to get much exposure. I don't mind fandom, and tumblr was perhaps invented for that very purpose. It just seems DA has changed.

I haven't been active enough here lately to have an accurate perspective, though.  What do you notice happening with DA?

Do you miss me here, should I put more effort into my account? I try to keep one ear to the ground with social media because it changes so fast. I seem to get the most interaction via my FB page, Twitter and Tumblr, so that's where I've been.

Somehow I found a way to do all these things at once. I write and draw the Award-Winning, time travel adventure story The Dreamer, set in the Revolutionary War. With my co-host Chris Oatley, we produce the Paper Wings Podcast, a show for visual storytellers. Visit the website for resources pertaining to how to make the most of your own artistic career: www.paperwingspocast.com

I stumbled across your comic by accident one day...and I was hooked! Thank you so much for creating it- you've done a beautiful job, and I can't wait to see what happens next :) Glad to have found another person who loves history and learning about the real people involved!
